By federal requirement, nearly every nursing home must have an RN director of nursing services (DNS). The DNS is both a leader and a manager of the nursing department and must have excellent skills to collaborate with the medical director, administrator, facility staff, residents, family, and government agencies (such as the Ombudsman and surveyors). As a DNS, it’s easy to let the emergencies of your day take over and cause you to neglect other important aspects of your leadership role. This session is designed to assist you to understand your role as leader and manager; outline what you need to monitor on a daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis; and guide you to time saving tips. With the plethora of government programs driving LTC, your success as a new DON depends on your comprehension of them.
