Pharmacist & Infection Prevention Roles in ASP
Currently within long-term care, CMS regulation requires
infection control practice to include preventing infectious disease from
spreading and reporting the use of antimicrobials. The new federal regulation, F881, requires facilities to implement an antibiotic stewardship program (ASP) by
November 28, 2017, that covers accountability, surveillance, analysis, and has
governance in controlling and utilizing protocols for the use of
antimicrobials. The goal is to
mitigate antimicrobial drug resistance within long-term care in a safe, measurable, and efficient manner.
Following this course, you will:
-
Be able to implement a comprehensive antibiotic stewardship program that will provide the governance, surveillance, protocols, and day-to-day management of antimicrobial use within the LTC facility
-
Perform a gap/risk assessment the will assist in the development of an implementation plan
-
Identify and initiate a process measure and outcome measure required for compliance
